PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT  SERVICES
General and Specialized Professional Development:

This service can assist district efforts to improve literacy achievement through high-quality, research-based professional development, school-based consulting services, and serve as a vehicle for sharing local expertise. Services include:

  • Offerings are developed based on request to meet specific district needs for embedded staff development in any of the disciplines. Presenters and trainers are identified to implement these services.

  • Specific trainings are developed when at least 2 districts request a presenter or organization.

  • Annual trainings that continue to meet district needs are planned and offered, such as Schools Attuned, and the Reading and Writing Institutes.

  • Successive sharing of presenters is planned with districts after a shared district activity.  Individual districts may have the same presenter work with their district for up to one year after the shared activity.

TURNKEY TRAINING
This service provides districts with up-to-date information from the State Education Department regarding regulations, policies and assessments. Turnkey workshops are free to three staff members per district and are held throughout the year. Reimbursement is available for substitute teacher costs.
WILSON READING SYSTEM
The Wilson Reading System Training is a direct, multi-sensory structured-language teaching program designed for students who have difficulty with written language in the areas of decoding and spelling. The Wilson Reading System teaches students the structure of words and language through a sequenced, 12-step program. This program can be used with elementary, middle and high school students. It is based on the Orton Gillingham philosophy and principles, as well as phonological coding research. An overview workshop and three levels of sequential training are offered to participants.
